Savannah’s Original Candy Store aims to reach 500,000 total meals raised for Kids Cafe through June 24 celebration, guest praline dippers and praline sales donations
SAVANNAH, Ga. — River Street Sweets®, home of Savannah’s Original
World Famous Pralines®, will celebrate National Pralines Day with Pralines for a Purpose on Wednesday, June 24, 2026. The celebration will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at its Broughton Street store located at 32 E. Broughton St. in Savannah.
The event continues River Street Sweets’ longstanding partnership with Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia and its Kids Cafe® program, which helps ensure children have access to nutritious meals, educational support and safe places to gather when school is not in session. During the summer months, when many children lose access to school meal programs, donations help fill a critical need. Every $1 donated helps provide approximately five meals for children. From Wednesday, June 24, through Sunday, June 28, River Street Sweets will donate 10 percent of all in-store and online praline sales to Second Harvest’s Kids Cafe program. Guests can also support the effort by rounding up at the register or contributing through cash donation boxes available at River Street Sweets’ 16 locations.
The June 24th celebration will feature balloons, giveaways, candy samples and praline-dipping with local guest dippers including Roger Moss, Board President of the Savannah-Chatham County Board of Public Education; Bert Brantley, President & CEO of the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce; and Miriam Langley, Chief Executive Officer of Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia. River Street Sweets co-owners Tim and Jennifer Strickland will also be on hand to welcome guests and celebrate Savannah’s signature candy, started over 50 years ago at River Street Sweets.
“Pralines are part of Savannah’s story, and this event gives us a way to turn a favorite treat into meaningful support for children and families,” said Tim Strickland, co-owner of River Street Sweets. “Every round-up, every donation and every praline sold during this campaign helps Second Harvest reach children who may not have reliable access to meals while school is out.”
Over the past nine years of fundraising for Kids Cafe, River Street Sweets and its guests have helped provide more than 440,000 meals through the partnership. This year’s goal is to contribute enough to surpass 500,000 total meals. In addition to the in-store and online donations, the Savannah store locations will have new hats for sale, and $5 from every hat purchased will go to the Pralines for a Purpose efforts for the Kid’s Cafe.
“Kids Cafe is about more than a meal,” said Jennifer Strickland, co-owner of River Street Sweets. “It offers nourishment, care and a safe place for children during a time of year when many families need extra support. We are grateful our guests continue to help us make a difference.”
